Stretching To Fix Tight Foreskin (Phimosis)

here is some info on foreskin care

Stretching To Fix Tight Foreskin (Phimosis)

Many men come to this site seeking help for tight foreskin problems. To avoid constant repetition I have tried to write instructions in one place.

ANATOMY
The penis has a number of structures that you should know. The head of the penis is called the glans. The foreskin is also called the prepuce. It is attached under the pee hole or meatus by a y-shaped piece of skin called the fraenulum or frenulum. The frenulum is similar in structure to the one under the tongue and has an important sexual function. The fraenular band is the tight bit at the foreskin opening that is being stretched in this case.

PHIMOSIS
Phimosis may be mild or severe. Some men can retract their foreskin easily when their penis is flaccid (soft) but experience difficulty when erect. In others the opening is so tight that they can only see a tiny bit of their glans when they pull back on their foreskin.

WHY BOTHER TO STRETCH
Although some men manage to live with phimosis there are some disadvantages to having a non-retractable foreskin.
Firstly it is hard to clean and may smell. The body produces a white substance called smegma that collects under the foreskin and in the folds of female genitalia. Smegma usually does no harm but it is susceptible to infections that can cause pain and/or odours.
Secondly having sex with the foreskin forward reduces sexual sensations.
Thirdly many men with tight foreskins complain that sex without a condom is painful as the foreskin may be forced back during sex.

BETAMETHASONE
You can ask your doctor to prescribe Betamethasone 1% ointment. A tiny amount of this ointment can be applied to the tight part of the foreskin. It will speed up the stretching process but won’t do anything on its own, without stretching. Stretching will still work without the ointment, just more slowly.

STRETCHING TECHNIQUE ONE
If the foreskin is very tight the simplest method is to pull back on the skin (easiest with an erection) so that the opening feels tight without real pain. Hold that for a few minutes and repeat a few times. Do this a couple of times a day. Soaking in a warm bath will make the skin easier to stretch. If the opening becomes sore, or develops splits, stop and let things heal up. Going at it too fast will only slow things down in the end.
Once the opening is big enough to just fit over the rim of the glans when erect the foreskin is at risk of getting stuck behind it. If this happens paraphimosis may develop. Stretching technique two avoids this risk.

PARAPHIMOSIS
Paraphimosis occurs when the foreskin gets stuck behind the glans of an erect penis, trapping the blood that causes the erection in the glans and causing swelling of the foreskin itself. If the foreskin becomes stuck squeeze the head of the penis firmly to force the blood out and try and ease the foreskin forward. If after many tries you still can’t do this see a doctor or ER fast. This is uncommon but you should be warned.

STRETCHING TECHNIQUE TWO
You can either grab each side of the foreskin opening (with the foreskin forward) and gently pull on each side of the opening or, even better, insert the ends of two fingers, even the little fingers and pull them gently apart. Stretch the opening in this way until it feels uncomfortably stretched but not actually painful. Hold and repeat as for method one. Once again this is best done after soaking in a warm bath.

SENSITIVITY
As you stretch and are able to expose more of the glans you may find that it is very sensitive or even painful to touch. You will find it less painful the more you expose and use it and gradually the over-sensitivity will lessen. A gentle way to start touching the head is by using the shower spray. Also use lube when touching the head directly.

SMEGMA BUILD UP
As you stretch and are able to expose more of the head you may discover a build up of smegma. This may even contain hard lumps that are hard to remove. Soften them with a light vegetable oil or a non-scented, oily cream such as sorbolene or vitamin E cream. The smegma and softening agent can then be removed with a mild non-scented soap followed by a thorough rinse with plain water. A number of applications over a period of time may be necessary before the build up is cleaned away. Once it is then simple rinsing with plain water every day is enough to keep most penises clean and fresh. Some men can use soap daily but others find it upsets the natural balance and can actually cause infections or irritation.

TIGHT FRAENULUM
Sometimes the cause of difficulty in retracting the foreskin is not a tight foreskin opening but a short fraenulum (frenulum), also known as fraenulum breve. This can also be stretched though it is sometimes more difficult to do this. You can grab the underside of the foreskin opening and pull out away from your body until you feel the fraenulum stretching. Or if your foreskin opening is large enough you can pull back on the foreskin until you feel the fraenulum stretching. Hold and repeat as in the foreskin opening stretching methods.
If the fraenulum can’t be stretched then an alternative to circumcision is a frenuloplasty. It is a simple operation that does not remove any tissue but fixes the problem with minimal healing time.

KEEP AT IT
Keep stretching for a while once you get to the diameter of foreskin opening you want. If you stop too soon it is possible for things to tighten up again. So just keep doing the exercises for a week or two after everything is loose enough to work properly,
Geoff

Good summary Jim - you have concisely included most if not all of what we have been "preaching".

Only two points come to mind just now; the betamethasone ointment of preference is actually 0.1% not 1% - this is the maximum strength available, therefore the most effective (and more effective than cream) but not so commonly prescribed (more common is 0.05%). Hydrocortisone 1% is available without prescription - but is not really effective.

And I feel that one should not even mention circumcision as a possible approach to a short fr├Žnulum - this really is the "amputating the foot to cure ingrown toenail" scenario.

My 8 year old son is having trouble with a tight foreskin and the doctor has mentioned that a circumsion may be needed... as a mother I have panicked thinking I will have to put my son through an operation that may well scar him for life (emonionally as well as physically) Your site has given me lots of reasuring advice that there are other options and methods to try before the op needs to be considered. Thanks and I will be encoruaging my son to stretch.

i have to agree that this site has great advise! my 7 yr old has very tight foreskin and after seeing two doctors i thought circumsicion was going to have to happen! i do not want to do this and cause pain that is not needed so i am very grateful for this advise! thankyou!!!

I can see some improvements

Anonymous said that her 5yo could not retract. STOP! Not every 5 year old boy can retract his foreskin. That is perfectly natural. Some boys do not have a retractable foreskin until they are well into puberty.

Let the boy decide if he can retract his foreskin. After he has reached puberty, if his foreskin is mobile and he cannot retract it, then you can start thinking about stretching the opening.

first of thanks for information.....but i have to ask the betamathsone cream is to be applied over the skin? & then start the stretching exercise?

And i will be using these techniques from now on forth to see if it improves :).

Any advice would be great, thankyou very much :)

yes this really does help...circumcision is not the only way to fix things....if you stretch your foreskin twice a day then you will see the results very soon....i used a steroid cream called "betnovate" and it does help a lot...now i can stratch my foreskin easily .... just need to do more stretching exercises when my penis is erect.....

Im actually so happy i saw this! I have had quite a few infections because of my problem and i hope that this will help C: Again thank you :)

To those with children that have not hit puberty, PLEASE don't worry about your son being diagnosed with phomosis...alot of times the foreskin will not retract until puberty. So at 5, 7, 9 it is ok FOR your son NOT to be retractable.

Yess!, I thought i would never find a site like this, Thanks!

Hi Guys,

I am 23 Yrs old, and I do have a tight foreskin problem, initially I had lots of trouble when I tried to retract my foreskin. But, later on one day I desperately wanted to pull foreskin back. So I just went casually for a bath and just started to pour water over my body and later on when I was about to finish taking bath I just tried to pull my foreskin back, fortunately my penis was flaccid at that time and I was able to pull my foreskin back. Believe me that was the first time I saw my glans fully. I was very happy :) and then started the problem I got the erection and my foreskin went back and exposing my glans of my penis very clear. I saw a lot of smegma being accumulated on the glans and I just tried to touch my glans but its too sensitive to touch. But I was very happy to see my entire glans so I dint feel much about the sensitivity. First I touched once I felt the tickling sensation, and then after some time I touched twice and so on. Finally I never felt the tickling sensation again. And I then applied little soap over my fingers and applied over the smegma and it went of in a flash and my glans was shining with cleanliness!.

It is always fun when you do something for the first time, the amount of happiness when you see your entire glans for the first time was awesome. So, my suggestion is to do things slowly, don't be in a hurry. don't rub your glans hard you would definitely feel tickling sensation. Hold your glans rather than rubbing it, believe this will surely help. Don't expect things to happen in your first attempt itself, do it regularly during your bath that should help a lot. Use luke warm water to wash your glans (water shouldn't be too hot nor too cold.

DO things SLOWLY, patience is the most important thing in my case and I got the results. Get in touch with me if you have any questions or any better suggestions over this so that I could do that for me. I am still doing this daily in my bath and its paying me. Do not go for circumcision directly there is always a change of doing stretching exercises and it could pay you.

I'm very confused as I have took my 5 year old son to a medical profesional severval time to have a foreskin stretch. No cream or lubricartion was used and my son was adviced by the doctor to scream or shout as loud as he liked, as this was going to hurt + it did. Is this normal practice?

Jay Walker said...

Anonymous, what you are describing is not normal or necessary. The ONLY one who should be stretching or attempting to retract your son's foreskin is himself. It should not even be a worry until at least puberty. There is no reason to forcibly retract or stretch a 5 year old's foreskin, as long as he can urinate! When being stretched, the foreskin should feel uncomfortable, but never painful. Pain is an indication of damage, and damaging the tissue and tearing can cause scarring and permanent damage, making retraction even less likely. Once your son is older, he can do the stretching himself in a consistent, firm, and non-painful manner. Working on it over time will give much better results than trying to make it happen forcefully in a short period. Some statisics even show that the average age of retraction is somewhere around age 10! For now, just leave it alone, and don't worry about it.

Jay Walker is right, foreskin is birth right and no one has the right to remove it except its owner. So please do not circumcise your kid unless he decides to.

My 6-year-old son complains that his penis hurts when it is erect. He has been complaining for over a year now. The GP said the foreskin is too tight. We are waiting for an appointment with an urologist.
I understand it is normal for a boy his age not to be able to retract the skin, but why does he feel pain? Should we consider stretching?

Thank you so much...

I can pull my skin back when I'm not erect, but when I have an erection, I cannot do that. I'm afraid that if I leave the foreskin back for some time, and get an erection, that I will get paraphimosis. I tried this once. It scared me when the skin didn't go back easily, but I forced it back. Should I try the "foreskin back erection" or should I stretch my skin more?

Thanks,
started earlier today and seeing massive improvements.
P.S im 15

Hi, not sure if this will put any of your minds at ease but I have had tight foreskin my whole life, yes I am going to start the stretches but I have had many sexual encounters with no problems, condoms actually make it easier but with no condoms there are 3 options, 1.Make ur gf wet, if she is wet it generally works fine 2.lubrication, add a little lube to your penis & again no problems 3.probably the easiest & cheapest, just spit into your hand and use as a libricant, or my preffered way is to have your gf's spit
Hope this helped a lot of you guys as I was very nervous before I lost my virginity and missed out on alot of early oportunities due to it

Thank god I found this website I've been scared to talk about this with anyone and soon I won't have to worry about my penis.

Yeah You guys need to start Masturbating daily and pulling it downward like it was meant to be used. Its meant to be a protective sheath that when it touches the vagina makes you explode. SO your missing out. Its completely normal. Everyone has to stretch their foreskin. Some guys figure this out much later then others. I'm surprised you never noticed that that's the-part that feels good, wouldn't you naturally want to expose it. Don't worry by the time your 20 even sooner you will be able to fully retract it. It hurts at first but that skin is very elastic. It has to go back or you will not be able to clean it later in life and get yeast infections when you do have sex from the women. You really should stretch it all the time. Just don't force it where it does not want to go back because then it gets inflamed and could get stuck over your tip and if you leave it like that it will only get more inflamed and not go back up so don't leave it there. Some guys figure this out the hard way. What ever you do don't listen to advice of other guys who are CUT the information they will give you is absolutely useless and not true as they have never had the pleasure of sensitivity to be able to tell you what they have lost. And NO other people will tell you its a medical condition. NO it is not its called phimosis and everybody who is born has it. Your head slowly separates then you can start stretching it. If you don't then when you do have sex. It could pull ut back super hard and hurt like hell. FYI every woman that i have been loves it.; They love the gliding action as the stabling dry action of being cut pulling their insides out is not as fun. So be-careful who you talk too. Everyone would around your age would tell you to get it cut off. You should read stuff not like Circumcised or Uncircumcised. But stuff like how to use the foreskin, which is written by Men not woman or doctors who are circumcised. Just an FYI i'm sure your gonna figure that all out later on anyway. You are going down the path of Natural Sex Growth. NATURAL 15 percent of the world will always try to tell you to get it cut. But if you do your just going to miss out on the fun later. Like not needing lube and feeling so much more. Even with phimosis you feel the most you will ever feel. Now imagine how your head will feel in a vagina designed for your penis.

You guys really need to know if you have sons. YOUR SKIN need to be stretched by masturbation downward. That's how you do it. Mostly guys figure this out by themselves at a young age some don't. WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT LISTEN TO DOCTORS OR ANYONE who is NOT UNCUT because they have never lived through it and have no idea how to use a part of their body that has been Pealed off Crushed and Amputated. Its like asking advice on how to draw draw from a guy Missing all his fingers. Everyone Has a Tight Foreskin just ask you stretch it your self and it takes like 2 years to fully get your head out. And later in life, you wont even know your uncut because when you pull your foreskin down it will look like a circumcised person except that you will have the ability to glide. Its a Natural Part of growing up. And Parents just tell your kids how it works. As they do this when they are ready. You can not peel apart the skin from the gland when its not fully developed. Their Penis they have to do it when they realize it moves around inside the skin and is ready. They just need to know that you need to switch hands when you masturbate and masturbate down. Because some people when they have foreskin develop a rubbing technique because thy use the limited motion just to play with their tip. And not even try to see the rest of the head. FYI hydrocorasone works, but Vitamin E works much better for more elasticity.

I'm 17 and I've started the stretching but I'm scared that one day I could get my foreskin stuck behind my glans (paraphimosis). Please help. What should I do?

Excellent post. A few additional points should be made.

First, make sure that when you stretch your foreskin, it is moist. Dry skin doesn't stretch too well. A warm bath or shower should facilitate this.

Second, if you do use a steroid cream, remember that these creams thin out your skin. Which means, even though your skin will stretch easier, it will also bruise easier - so take it easy with the stretches.

Third, be aware that while you stretch your foreskin, it may be a good idea to gentler sex (ideally with a condom) as it may develop sores much more easily.

Finally, don't rush it. Most guys would try to get it done in a matter of days. Our skin takes time to grow. Give it the time it needs. You can now understand why the paraphimosis section is in between stretching method 1 and 2 above :-)

as a 15 year old and learning about sexual intercourse it was important to take action on this. my Foreskin dosen't peel back like a normal gentleman's does so i got worried and all over the internet it was circumcision there circumcision here. This has given me hope and made my Girlfriend so happy i told her i was going to do this :) i am going to do this stretching and i will get back to you on how it went. thanks again mate your a big life saver and i hope you know that!

Mothers should know that masturbation is natures way of having a boy strech his foreskin. All boys should be encouraged to masturbate regularly. This will ensure that he does not develope phimosis. Most importantly, a mother should always maintain openess about talking to her son about any and all sex subjects openly.

I have seen two products that can work very well, novoglans and glanspro. Also there is a stretching ebook available. Betamethasone should be combined with one of these products in my opinion. see www.phimosis.ca

I'm female and my husband has partial phimosis (so his foreskin retracts fully when he's soft, but not when he's erect). He didn't even realise he was different to most guys with foreskins until he was an adult, probably because our generation didn't have access to internet porn (back in the dark ages!) so he didn't even know that his foreskin was supposed to do that.

Anyway - the point of this post is to reassure guys who might be worrying about being different and that it might affect your sex life, because partial phimosis isn't necessarily going to cause you any problems when having sex.

My partner is going to try the stretching thing now (at the advanced age of 41), simply because he thinks it might be fun to have that extra sensitivity - but it really hasn't ever been a problem for him.

A simple and effective treatment is to massage the foreskin with a topical (surface) steroid cream - Betamethasone Cream 0.05% - twice daily for four to six weeks.
Available from chemists and drugstores.
